Assessment of Nature Uganda’s CSA initiatives, lessons and good practices, and scaling up strategies in Southwestern Uganda, February 2023

Nature Uganda (NU) is implementing Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Initiatives in the districts of Rubirizi, Rubanda and Kisoro in southwestern Uganda with support from AfriEvolve Project and People Partner with Nature (PPN) programme. NU contracted ARA to conduct an assessment of its CSA initiatives in the target districts. The CSA initiative aims to demonstrate and scale up the three pillars of CSA, namely (i) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and income; (ii) adopting and building resilience to climate change and (iii) reducing and/ or removing greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.

What the Intitiative Aimed to demonstrate.

The objective of the assessment was to identify, evaluate and document CSA activities, including best practices, technologies and approaches implemented under the NU/ CSA initiative in Kisoro and Rubanda districts.

The assessment involved a wide range of players including government ministries and agencies, local governments, Community Based Organisations (CBOs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs), the private sector and individuals. These provided their experiences and views on the NU/ CSA activities. The assessment identified and documented best practices, lessons learned as well as gaps and opportunities for scaling up CSA practices, technologies and approaches in current and future initiatives.
